Hi,

My name’s Derek.

I do ‘business data stuff’ and have done since 2008. Most of my work involves applying software techniques to solve real-world problems but I have a strong background in operational management too.

My guiding principle in all of my work is ‘as simple as possible but no simpler’.

It can be difficult to get an idea for an app off the ground. I build quick, affordable prototypes using web technologies to help customers test out concepts and obtain additional funding.

Sometimes, when a developer moves on, a customer is left with a ‘black box’ program. They may know roughly what it does but have no idea how it works. I have successfully reverse engineered or re-engineered applications in a variety of languages and technologies including perl, VBScript and SQLServer.
